Implementation of The Zones of Regulation in the classroom and making connections to Second Step.
Regulation is something everyone continually works on whether we are cognizant of it. The Zones of Regulation creates an environment that helps students think about and manage their feelings and states. This systematic approach categorizes all the different feelings and states into 4 concrete colored Zones. The Zones of regulation teaches students to identify their feelings and levels of alertness, understand their feelings in context, effective regulation tools and when to use them, problem-solving, and empathy that ultimately leads to independent regulation. This professional development will connect this program with Second Step. Second Step is a research-based SEL program used in TPS schools. The second Step promotes social-emotional development, safety, and well-being in students. Both programs establish a common language throughout the school.
